What is Nisab?

Nisab is when a person who has some form of wealth which meets a certain treshold and it is liable for zakat. In Malaysia, gold is used to measure the value of nisab. Actually, in Islam we could use either gold or silver to measure the nisab.

In the instance of using gold as the measurement of nisab, the gold standard is 3 ounces of gold (approximately 85 grammes) or its cash equivalent.

Please note that, the price of gold is as for the current market value. In 2010, the nisab for LZS is RM9,000.00. Wallahua’lam.
